Black Watch Colonel's Dining-in 2022
by Steven Logan
After a few years of pandemic, the Black Watch(RHR) of Canada's Officer's Mess decided to
have its first activity, the Colonel's Dining-In, on April 29th, 2022 at the Black Watch
Armoury. It was really nice to meet up with our friends and acquaintances at this traditional
event which gave past and present serving officers the opportunity to come together with invited guests.

What I like the most about the Colonel's Dining-In is that it's the perfect event for people who
know very little about Scottish culture and the Black watch. You can just enjoy the evening that
started of with a meet and greet, watch and learn. Everything is pleasant, easygoing and you get to brush up on your social skills while having fun. Add a traditional Scottish meal and the Black Watch pipes and Drums and you have a very memorable event. This year, there were more francophones in attendance, an indication that more people of various cultural backgrounds are discovering new traditions.
There were a few speeches, toasts and Scottish dancing. There was a great sword dance
which impressed the cheering crowd and a piper's lament to remember the fallen.
These last few years have been very difficult. Guests were very pleased to have the chance to meet up again for a fantastic evening. We were all looking forward to forgetting our everyday dilemmas and just immerse ourselves in Scottish culture, heritage and tradition. The Colonel's Dining-in was resounding success.
